"Freethought is a philosophical viewpoint that holds that beliefs should be formed on the basis of science and logic and should not be influenced by emotion, authority, tradition, or any dogma. The cognitive application of freethought is known as freethinking, and practitioners of freethought are known as freethinkers." - (from Wikipedia...)

Nittany Freethought is a discussion group in the Central Pennsylvania area. We meet on a regular basis to discuss freethought issues as well as just to get together with some like-minded people.

Skeptical Eating and Drinking
When: 1st Thu 7pm – 9pm
Where: Adam's Apple - Tavern Restaurant (220 E College Ave, State College)
Description: Our meeting on the 1st Thurs. started at a bar, hence the original Skeptical Drinking name. Since we moved to Adam's Apple for a quieter atmosphere several of us have taken to having a nice Tavern dinner instead of drinking, but neither is required...feel free to just join us for some skeptical conversation! We'll try to have a few skeptical books and magazines on the table so you can recognize us.

We talk about any issue that requires reason and rational thought including science, politics, religion, and anything else that comes up. We are also an activist group where appropriate, writing letters to editors and politicians; and may invite speakers, distribute literature, and educational materials in areas where we detect a lack of critical thinking.

Monthly Meeting
When: 3rd Thu 6pm – 8pm
Where: Irving's Bagels (418 E. College Ave, State College
Description: We meet downstairs. We'll try to have a few skeptical books and magazines on the table so you can recognize us.  On the rare occasions where Irving's is closed we meet around the corner at Webster's.

"Critical thinking is the purposeful and reflective judgment about what to believe or what to do in response to observations, experience, verbal or written expressions, or arguments. Critical thinking involves determining the meaning and significance of what is observed or expressed, or, concerning a given inference or argument, determining whether there is adequate justification to accept the conclusion as true." - (from Wikipedia...)
